this service, he has developed proprietary procedures and practices which

When deciding who will weld your cams, it is critical that the individual or company
you choose has the knowledge, experience, reputation and track record to provide the
most comprehensive and trouble-free cam welding service possible.
We are confident you will find Northeast SHO to be your best choice!
◄ COMPARE THE COMPETITION: Left - Competitor's "welds"; Right - NESHO's welds. |
Northeast SHO's Cam Welding service includes the following:
-
Engine disassembly to access all four camshafts
-
Inspection of camshaft sprockets to determine if any sprockets have begun
to loosen*
-
All four camshaft sprockets professionally welded directly to the
camshafts using NESHO's proprietary methods
-
Valve shim clearances measured for one valve on each cam on request (full
valve adjustment service available for an additional charge)
-
Complete cleaning of upper intake manifold to remove all carbon, sludge,
gasoline and oil residue
-
Complete cleaning of lower intake manifold and lubrication of secondary
butterflies to ensure trouble-free IMRC operation
-
Eight brand new genuine Motorcraft AGSF32FM "Fine Wire"
factory-specified spark plugs
-
Upper and lower intake manifold gaskets cleaned and re-coated (sadly, new gaskets are no longer available)
-
Coil pack rotation** (installation of replacement coils incur no
additional labor charge when done during a cam weld)
-
Installation of insulation between the top of the rear valve cover and wiring harness to prevent the
harness from melting and shorting due to the extreme heat trapped at the
rear of the engine
-
Oil change service including a new filter and 6.5 quarts of premium
factory-specified 5W-30 oil
-
Engine reassembly to factory specifications
-
Complete cleaning of engine vanity cover
-
Digital photographs detailing the actual welded camshaft sprockets, the
vehicle identification number (VIN) and license plate on the car at the time
of the service are taken to document the cam weld service (requests for
copies of photos will be processed on an individual basis and may take up to
30 days or more to process)
* If a loose or displaced sprocket is found, it must be returned to it's
factory position and timing before being welded. An additional charge of
$100 applies when this occurs, which is usually only about once in every ten to
twelve cars.
** Coil pack rotation means that the front four coils are reinstalled in the
rear, and the rear coils are installed in the front. It is our experience
that the rear coils tend to fail first due to the excessive heat trapped at the
rear of the engine. By moving those coils to the front, if one of those
coils does fail in the future, it becomes a very easy DIY (Do-it-Yourself)
project to replace a front coil as opposed to a rear!
Current price for this service is $800.00 when performed at our
shop in Spencer, MA. This service usually takes approximately 4 to 5
hours. We offer both drop-off and while-you-wait service.
►PLEASE
NOTE
Camfest pricing is generally slightly higher than
the price charged at our shop in Spencer, MA due to the additional travel
expenses incurred. These additional costs fluctuate depending on the
location of the camfest, and the total number of cars to be welded. Final
pricing is usually set no later than two weeks prior to the camfest.
In the event that upon disassembly we find that the camshaft sprockets have
already been welded (we've only seen this three times in almost 1000 cars), a charge of
$250 will apply for the disassembly and reassembly labor. If the owner
wishes to have the intake cleaned (including all new gaskets) and plugs replaced on a previously-welded car,
the total charge will be $500 for parts and labor.
If you are too far away from both our shop and camfest locations, we can
recommend a select handful of qualified people around the country
who can weld your cams. Please EMAIL us for a referral, and be sure to include your city and state.
►DISCLAIMERS
We reserve the right to refuse to perform the cam weld service on any vehicle
as we deem appropriate. While rare, we occasionally encounter engines
which are in such a poor state of repair that we do not believe that proceeding
with the cam weld service would be appropriate. Most of the time, this is
a result of neglected oil changes or maintenance which has allowed a crusty film
of baked oil to accumulate within the cylinder heads and oil passages.
Sometimes, this film can be quite thick and flaky. Because of the nature
of the cam weld service, the possibility exists of dislodging a large enough
piece of debris which may later obstruct the oil passages and starve parts of
the engine of proper lubrication. When we refuse to perform the service as
a result of such a film buildup, we usually suggest a course of cleaning with
agents specifically intended for such a purpose, and then re-scheduling the cam
weld service for a future date.
In the event that we refuse to perform the cam weld service, or if upon
disassembly we find that the camshaft sprockets have already been welded (we've
only seen this twice in over 600 cars), a charge of $250 will apply for the
disassembly and reassembly labor.
On the rare engine where the camshaft sprockets have already been welded, if
the owner wishes to have the intake cleaned and plugs replaced as a preventative
maintenance service, the total charge will be $500 for parts and labor.
